Two men were arrested after an armed robbery at a Bozeman home early Friday morning.
Bozeman police were dispatched to a home in the 400 block of Wilda Lane at around 1:45 a.m. where a caller reported that people had broken into the home and they were being assaulted and robbed, according to the Bozeman Police Department.
The caller said the suspects were masked and armed with guns. As the dispatcher listened, the caller reported that the suspects were breaking into the bathroom and the line then disconnected.
Several officers responded, and as they approached on foot, they saw a vehicle leaving from behind a brushy area next to the home. The vehicle traveled towards police at a high rate of speed and the driver refused to stop after officers yelled and shined lights on the driver, police said.
An officer fired his weapon at the tires as it passed by, and the vehicle continued and was located a short distance away, according to police.
The driver, Matthew Tan, 20, was the only occupant and was taken into custody without further incident. Several firearms and items of stolen property were reportedly located. A second suspect, Ryan Humphrey, 19, had reportedly run from the area at the scene. He was also taken into custody by officers without incident. Both men were charged with aggravated burglary and additional charges are anticipated.
"The practice of the Bozeman Police Department is to request outside assistance when our officers are involved in a situation where weapons are fired. In this case, the Montana Department of Criminal Investigation has responded and is assisting in this investigation," according to the news release from police.
"Detectives continue to investigate this incident. Identifying and locating potential suspects is the primary focus at this time. Initial investigation has shown that this incident was not random and that the victims were known to the suspects and were specifically targeted. There is no indication of a threat to the general community," the release states.
