A man is behind bars after he reportedly stabbed another man at the Bozeman Public Library.
Brian Best, 54, of Bozeman is accused of stabbing another man in the cheek with a knife at around 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4.
The man called police to tell them he had been stabbed by Best. When police found Best he had blood covering his pants and was carrying a knife with blood on the blade, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
Best reportedly admitted to police that he assaulted the man with his fists and that the knife was his, but said he didn't remember cutting him.
Best is charged with assault with a weapon. He appeared via video conference in Gallatin County Justice Court today. Best asked to be released on his own recognizance, but Judge Bryan Adams set bail at $20,000 due to the nature of the alleged crime and the safety of the community.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 17.
