About 90 brave people hopped into the frigid water at the East Gallatin Recreation Area today to raise money for Special Olympics.
The Presidents Plunge summons plungers who raise at least $100 to dunk themselves for the fundraiser. This year, about $25,000 was raised. A good chunk of that money came from the fundraising efforts of the Murdoch's Maniacs team.
"We are with the Murdoch's Maniacs, how about that, huh? And you know what? We raised $10,000 for the plunge today," team member John Parks said.
"I just think this is a great event and I wish we could get more people here next year because it's so worthwhile," he continued.
Bozeman's plunge is one of 10 held in Montana. In Bozeman, 60 percent of the proceeds go to local athletes and the other 40 percent goes to Montana Special Olympics.
Organizers say Montana is in the top five places in the world, per capita, for Special Olympics fundraising.
This was the 11th year for the plunge.
The temperature at noon Monday at the East Gallatin Recreation Area was about 30 degrees, Chief meteorologist Mike Heard said.
