A federal judge in Missoula has ruled in a case brought by several wildlife groups seeking to put wolves back on the Endangered Species List.

U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy upheld the constitutionality of Congressional action taking the wolves off the protected list.

Montana's senior Senator Max Baucus sent a statement in reaction to the ruling in Missoula.

" While the law may have been unclear before, it was always clear that Montana has a science-based and effective wolf management plan. So we put control back in the hands of Montanans where it belongs, and with this court decision complete its time to move on with another successful wolf hunt in Montana."

Senator Jon Tester's also issued a statement following the decision.

"Returning Montana's wolves to Montana management was the right thing to do, and we did it in a responsible way with utmost respect to existing law and to our Constitution. Now that the Court has agreed, it's time to move forward with Montana's wolf management plan for the sake of our livestock, our wildlife, and for better management of wolves themselves."
