Thanks to a pair of alert passers-by, a barn fire was snuffed out before it caused major damage this morning south of Bozeman.
Working in temperatures between 10 and 13-degrees, volunteers with Rae and Sourdough Fire Departments responded to a barn fire at just after 7:30 this morning on the west side of Hyalite Canyon Road.
A pair of skiers on their way to the reservoir spotted smoke coming out of the structure as they were driving by.
After calling 9-1-1, the skiers broke out their avalanche shovels and started tossing snow on the blaze.
Captain Justin Miller of Rae and Sourdough Fire told the News Station that the cause of the blaze could not be determined and only minor damage was done to the structure.
He wanted us to remind everyone that it's always a good idea to check you smoke detectors and make sure and have your chimney's cleaned out regularly.
